Strive is excited to announce the launch of our quarterly book club! In an effort to inspire deeper discussions surrounding women, women in the workplace, and the power of great story telling, we will be hosting a quarterly forum driven by a chosen piece of literature. All are welcome!
Our 3rd Quarter Book Club Selection: The Female Persuasion a novel by Meg Wolitzer

Meg Wolitzer is a lifelong New Yorker and graduate of Brown University. She has guest lectured at a number of the top writing programs in the U.S., and has written op-eds for The New York Times, among other publications. Her 12th novel, The Female Persuasion was released to wide critical acclaim across the literary world in 2018 and will be made into a major motion picture. The novel follows a recent graduate and her older female mentor as they explore the complicated nature of female relationships against a backdrop of feminist ideals.

 

The book is available on Amazon or at your local library. We encourage you to share your copy with coworkers as well.

How to Engineer Your Success – IEEE Chicago Chapter Workshop

On August 26, HBK Strive hosted the IEEE Chicago Chapter’s Summer Workshop: How to Engineer Your Success, an interactive workshop exploring the process of personal transformation in and out of the workplace. Professor Alexander Flueck Ph.D. from Illinois Institute of Technology led a hands-on session focused on the fundamental ingredients of success. Strive members and HBK personnel were able to collaborate with other professionals in the engineering field to develop better insight into personal and professional success.

Negotiation FUNdamentals

On July 23rd, HBK Strive brought in Professor Gail Berger Ph.D. of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management to learn techniques for securing agreements and building better relationships. Through formal training and group exercises the group was able to gain and practice valuable skills for navigating any kind of negotiation.

Strive ChildServ Girl Group Home Night

On February 21st, Strive hosted girls from Childserv, a non-profit providing services for children, from foster care to early childhood education throughout the Chicagoland area.

The night included interactive discussions led by Strive board members on healthy eating and hygiene. Thank you to the volunteers and donations – all the girls received toiletry kits with essentials needed to build a strong foundation for the best possible life.
